KAM RIVER

     TECHNIQUES

The Kam River is located in Thunder Bay. Public access is gained on Mission Island. This river varies from slack smooth water to rapids that are fierce. A point of interest is "The Niagara of the North" Kakabecka Falls. Check this site out!!

SPRING:

Fish the base of rapids. A floating rapala works well in these areas. The mouth of the various creeks flowing into the Kam also produce nice walleye. As the base of the rapids are very rocky, I suggest you use a floating lure, unless you can afford it!

SUMMER:

The walleye have moved to the deeper holes at the base of the rapids and bends in the rivers. I like to jig for them with live bait or various power baits. At night the walleye will move into the faster water and feed. Again, I will use the Rapalas to fish here.

FALL:

It seems to me that the lower water temperatures will make the walleye use the slower water. I use a Lindy rig with a minnow at this time of year. Slip floats baited with minnows or worms also produce walleye. The bends in the river hold some HUGE walleye at night.

WINTER:

Ice fishing can be had in an area down By Old Fort William. This area is known as the "Loop". The main species caught there are pike and perch. Some walleye have been caught there also.
